How much storage space do I need?
As a rule of thumb: a studio in around 25 sq ft, a 2-bed in about 50, a 3-bed in about 100, a 4-bed in 150 or more. Facilities will show you the units before you commit, and moving down a size later means moving everything twice.
Is my stuff insured?
Usually you have to arrange it. Many facilities include a small amount of basic cover and sell more at the counter; your home insurer may extend cover to goods in storage for less. Ask both.
How long can I store for?
Most contracts are weekly or monthly rolling — a week, a year or longer. Ask about notice periods and whether a prepaid term is discounted.
Can I access my unit any time?
It depends on the facility. "24/7 access" and "24/7 gate access" are not always the same offer, and staffed hours differ again. If you need evenings or Sundays, confirm it before you sign.
What items can't I store?
Generally: flammable liquids, perishable food, weapons, live animals and anything illegal. Each facility publishes its own list — read it.
